In the past pool tags have been printed and laminated at an average cost annually of $2,000 to the community. This cost includes the paper, printing and laminating as well as a mark-up in profit by the supplier. This year paper pool tags will be replaced with what is called an RFID card, RFID stands for “Radio Frequency I.D.” This new system costs only slightly more than a single years worth of paper pool tags. Most everyone has seen one of these types of cards in the work environment, but for those who have not, here is an image of what they look like physically.
About the size of a business card, these cards are not to be confused with cards that have a magnetic strip that can be damaged or erased like a credit card. Neither do the cards contain any personal data about you or your family, only a number. The cards have a life expectancy of 10 years or approximately 1,000,000 card swipes. This is where the cost savings to the community comes in, by eliminating the reprinting of paper laminated pool tags each year.

Much thought this year went into bringing the community pool into the 21st century for everyone’s enjoyment. Just when you thought the Pool couldn’t get any cooler the new pool season brings the convenience of the Internet pool-side! Relax while surfing the Net with the newly added WiFi service. Look up the latest SPF suntan lotions or watch a viral video. Remember, electronics and H2O don’t mix. Be wary of splashing water when using any WiFi ready device within proximity of the pool. Catch some rays, swim a little, surf the Net . . . be happy!

Holidays are always a time for fun and festivities! Let’s keep them that way by reminding ourselves that it’s a real world we live in so as not to become complacent. Halloween can be one of the most exciting holidays for children with the bounty of sweets they can collect. Because of the exchange of edible food items and the potential for your children to interact with total strangers this holiday can present unique challenges for concerned parents.
Here are two links to some helpful tips for keeping you and your child safe, courtesy of Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Dept. website.
