coinsDon't forget, it takes money to make money. You'll need approximately $20 in one dollar bills. A few $5 and $10 bills. A roll of quarters and a few dollars worth of nickels and dimes. If the lowest priced items you're selling is .25¢ then you won't need any 5¢ or 10¢ change. Rule of thumb, if you're selling more items under a dollar you'll need more change, if you have more higher priced items then you'll need more paper bills.

Sale signs shouldn't go out before Friday afternoon and must be removed by Saturday evening. Each yard sale requires a permit from the City and are limited to two per household. The Community Yard Sale held once a year is another option that should be considered. Be considerate not to block any driveways and please understand, it's against the law to obstruct access to a mailbox. Big items or high profile items go up front. They draw attention to your sale and draw people in. Be sure to price your items aggressively to sell, people are looking for a bargain when they go to yard sales so give them one to find. Relax, be patient and enjoy the social interaction while you earn a little mad money for yourself.

Items that won't sell

Occasionally, you will have an item that just won't sell, no matter how much you've reduced the price. If and when this happens, consider donating the item to a charity such as Goodwill or Salvation Army. These organizations provide a receipt for the "fair" declared value of an item that can later be deducted from your taxes.

Community Classifieds

Maybe you got a late start with your sale, or it was called for rain before you could sell your best items.
